How to recognize and appreciate high-quality Italian extra virgin olive oil

The treasure of Italian gastronomy
Extra virgin olive oil is not just an ingredient – it is the very essence of Italian culture and tradition. It plays a leading role among Italian specialties and Italian delicacies that Danes increasingly love and appreciate. Among these products, Italian olive oil stands out as a symbol of quality, taste and health.

What makes Italian extra virgin olive oil so unique?
The Italian extra virgin olive oil is produced by cold pressing, which preserves its natural flavors and nutritional qualities. It is low in acidity and rich in antioxidants, making it a favorite among health-conscious consumers and those who love authentic Italian specialties .

Puglia olive oil: Powerful, robust and full of flavor
The Puglia region, Italy’s heel of the boot and largest producer of olive oil, supplies around 40% of the country’s total production. The region is known for its ancient olive trees and local varieties such as Coratina and Peranzana. Puglia oil stands out for its robust character and intense flavour – just a few drops are enough to lift a dish and give it a unique character.

Quality above all else
Not all olive oils are created equal. With Italian specialties, quality is key, and it starts with the producer. Many large producers focus on higher yields over flavor, but small, dedicated producers – like the ones we work with – choose quality and flavor over mass production. The result? An oil that not only tastes better, but also contains more nutrients.

Use: A versatile product
The Puglia olive oil is ideal for both raw and cooked dishes. A classic in Italian cuisine is pasta e fagioli (pasta with beans), where olive oil plays an important role in binding the dish together. Also try drizzling a few drops on a fresh salad, over toasted bread or as the finishing touch in a hot soup.

Taste and sustainability go hand in hand
Unfortunately, it is easy for some producers to cut costs at the expense of quality. We ensure that our producers work sustainably and locally. For example, our partner produces small quantities of oil and exclusively within a 40 km radius of their farm. This "kilometer 0" principle not only provides a better oil, but also an authentic taste experience.
