Tiramisu is the ultimate Italian dessert—a true classic, as simple as it is exquisite. Combining just four main ingredients: mascarpone, eggs, ladyfingers and espresso, it creates a delicious dessert with layers of deep coffee aroma and a sprinkle of cocoa on top. Tiramisu is loved throughout Italy and has inspired countless variations, from fresh strawberry tiramisu in the summer to nougat tiramisu for a little extra crunch.
Today we present the traditional version, a recipe that never goes out of style. It requires no baking and can be easily made in a large serving dish or as portioned dishes. If you want a thicker cream, you can reduce the number of egg yolks to two instead of four. Ready in just a few steps, it is a pure pleasure to make and share with others.
Ingredients (For 6 people)
- 400g mascarpone
- 200 g ladyfinger biscuits
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 200 g dark chocolate, grated (optional, for the layers)
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 egg whites
- 3 small cups of strong espresso
- Unsweetened cocoa powder for sprinkling
Procedure
-
Prepare the Coffee : Brew 3 small cups of strong espresso and let it cool slightly.
-
Make the Cream : Beat the egg yolks with the powdered sugar until the mixture is light and creamy. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until you have a smooth, thick cream. In another bowl, beat the egg whites to stiff peaks and then gently fold them into the mascarpone mixture for a fluffy consistency.
-
Assemble the Tiramisu : Dip each ladyfinger briefly in the coffee without soaking them, and place a layer of coffee-dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, and sprinkle with grated dark chocolate for extra flavor, if desired.
-
Layer and Refrigerate : Repeat the layers until you have used all the ingredients and finish with a layer of cream on top. Sprinkle generously with cocoa and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 3 hours to allow the flavors to blend and the dessert to set.
-
Serve : Just before serving, add an extra dusting of cocoa if desired. Enjoy every bite of this creamy, coffee-filled dessert!
Buon appetito!
